About SlivenThe town of Sliven (population: 100 695, 270 m above sea level) is situated in the eastern part of the Gornotrakiyska (Upper Thracian) Lowland at the foothills of the Sliven Balkan (Eastern Balkan Mountains). It is 279 km east of Sofia, 28 km north-west of Yambol, 70 km north-east of Stara Zagora, 75 km east of Kazanlak, 114 km west of Bourgas. The town of the 100 Voivodi (voivoda leader of a detachment of armed revolutionaries). A regional administrative centre.
